We had a great visit in Lancaster, PA. We headed that way on Tues. To see Jim Nabors in concert on Wednesday. We had a great visit with Amber's family, one of my sisters friends from high school. Wed. Morning we went with Amber and the kids to see a model train display that was really neat and then to an Amish village to look at some shops. Will and I then headed to a few more shops then dinner at an Amish buffet, where we had shoofly pie, bbq lima beans, and some other foods from the area. A couple of the places we stopped asked what we were in Lancaster for and we told them the Jim Nabors concert. One guy said surely that is not the only reason you drove the whole way from Arkansas to here and I said well yeah it was. The fan club also had someone as far as Australia come to see the concert.
We then headed to the concert, where 95% of the audience was probably over 60. We were in the very last row on the bottom area. We were sitting by an older couple the lady kept talk
ing with me about different things. The show started a few minutes late and a comedian came out. He was trying to be really funny but most peopole were not clapping, I think everyone was not expecting a side act and were anxiously waiting for Jim to come out. I think the crowd the comedian was performing for was not really into his type of jokes, He really was not all that funny. We then had an intermission. Since I was in the back row I was the first one to the bathroom. It was supposed to be 15 minutes and it ended up being 30, at 30 minutes the whole crowd was clapping together to get the show rolling. It was an awesome show. At one point he asked for 4 ladies to go on stage, I was raising my hands but he obviously could not see me from where I was at. The ladies around me were saying stand up stand up. I did and was jumping and waving my hands, still too far back. He quit calling people and there ended up being about 9 people on stage(I think some of them just went up). He talked to them a few minutes, asking where they were from and what they did, etc. Then he said he usually had dancers for the next number so sent them back stage to get their costumes. They came out dancing with feather boas, and I must say the ladies that were the oldest did the best job.
The concert ended and I was waiting for an encore that never came. So we started heading up front, I was looking for someone with a fanclub badge on. I found a lady and asked her if he was coming back out and she said probably not, and then I asked if he would be comeing out to meet people and she said no. I was very disappointed and we were just standing there for several minutes, me looking very said and I finally said, "Well I guess we won't meet him". The lady then turned and said there is a group of us planning to go back you can join us. I said yeah I know I am in that group, I just forgot to print out my badge. She then recognized me from my comments on the fan club page and I said oh yeah you are the one from Seattle. So we waited for a while then to meet him and the theater bouncers were saying we had to leave because we did not have backstage passes, Cindy, the lady from Seattle said she was waiting for Barbara, who was gonna let us back. He said he didn't know who Barbara was but we had to leave until she called, whoever she is. (she was Jim's secretary or something). So we went outside until we heard from her. Will decided to go to the bathroom and they started calling us in from the list on the fan club. I was afraid I would have to run in after him or send the guy beside me but he came out just before they called us.
We met him and talked with him for a few minutes and he signed my first season DVD. And got a picture with me. Will did not get in a picture with him so we tried to get another as he was talking with people and it looked like Will was stocking him. I then asked Cindy if we were getting a group photo, she said probably not, then a few minutes later she was gathering us all for one so I will be anxious to see it posted on his website.
We had a great time and I will definitely travel for any concert he has wherever it is :).
